What a fiber laser welding machine actually does
A fiber laser welding machine joins metal by focusing a continuous-wave fiber laser onto the seam. The energy is concentrated into a very small area, so the weld pool forms and solidifies quickly and the surrounding material barely heats up. That narrow heat-affected zone is the whole point: thin sheet does not warp, stainless does not discolour across the panel, and parts come off the bench dimensionally close to how they went on.
The practical consequence for a fabrication shop is what happens after the weld. MIG and TIG leave spatter and heat tint that has to be ground, sanded, or polished out. A laser weld on stainless or mild steel is generally clean enough to ship as-is, which removes an entire finishing operation rather than just speeding one up.

The speed figure is the one to read carefully. 8 m/min applies to thin gauge; thicker sections run slower. The consistent saving across all thicknesses is the finishing work you no longer do.
Materials and thickness
Capability scales with laser power. At 2kW the W-Series handles up to 5mm stainless, 5mm mild steel, and 4mm aluminum, with the 3kW configuration extending that further. Aluminum is more reflective and conducts heat away faster, which is why its rated thickness sits below steel at the same wattage.
The wobble head oscillates the beam across the joint — adjustable from 0 to 5mm — which widens the effective weld and makes the process far more tolerant of imperfect fit-up than a fixed spot would be. For wider gaps, an optional wire feeder adds filler material.
Why air-cooled matters
Most laser welders in this power class need a water chiller: another unit on the floor, plumbing, coolant, and a maintenance schedule. The W-Series is air-cooled with an integrated fan, so there is no chiller to buy, plumb, or service.
It also runs on 220V single phase rather than three-phase industrial supply. Between the two, installation usually means positioning the machine and plugging it in — which is why it suits shops adding welding capability without rewiring for it.

- Kitchen and food equipment — stainless counters, sinks, and hoods, with clean aesthetic welds needing no polishing.
- HVAC and ductwork — galvanized and mild steel assembly at speed, with minimal distortion on thin gauge.

- Automotive parts — exhaust components, brackets, and structural reinforcements; performs well on zinc-coated steel.
- Medical devices — 316L stainless trays, frames, and housings where weld cleanliness is a requirement.
- Art and architectural metalwork — sculpture and custom furniture where the weld stays visible and unpolished.
